Microsoft Fabric POC

Transforming Your Data Strategy

A tailored Proof of Concept to solve real-world challenges and build a trusted data layer with minimal risk

A Microsoft Fabric Proof of Concept (PoC) is a short-term, focused project designed to demonstrate the value and capabilities of Microsoft Fabric within your organisation. By integrating your existing data into a unified analytics platform, the PoC lays the groundwork for a trusted data layer, ensuring that your organisation has a single source of truth for data-driven decisions. At the core of the PoC is the implementation of a Medallion architecture, organising your data into structured tiers (Raw, Refined, and Curated) to ensure consistency, scalability, and governance.

This foundational layer enables streamlined data workflows, advanced analytics, and end-to-end data lineage. With minimal risk and investment, a Fabric PoC allows you to explore how the platform can address your specific business challenges and create a scalable, reliable framework for future growth.

The Process

1

Assessment and Scope Definition

We begin by working with your team to examine an existing data-related business problem. Understand how you are currently using data in your organisation and what technical data related skillsets already exists. Then together, we define the scope of the PoC, identifying key goals, data sources, and the specific outcomes you want to achieve.

2

Solution Architecture Design

A tailored solution is architected using Microsoft Fabric’s and the Medallion architecture framework. This architecture leverages core Fabric artefacts, including Lakehouses, Warehouses, Notebooks, Pipelines, and Semantic Models, to ensure seamless data flow, transformation, and analytics.

3

Deployment and Setup of Microsoft Fabric

We deploy and configure Microsoft Fabric, setting up the environment to support your organisation’s needs. This includes provisioning necessary resources and ensuring compatibility with existing tools and systems.

4

Data Orchestration and Transformation

Using a Medallion architecture, we build a solution to orchestrate data movement and transformation through the Raw, Refined, and Curated layers. This process ensures raw data is cleansed, enriched, and optimised for business use.

5

Semantic Model Development

A semantic model is created to enable meaningful analytics and reporting. This can be configured in either Direct Lake or Import Mode, depending on the specific requirements and performance considerations.

6

Custom Power BI Report

At the end of the process, you’ll receive a custom-designed Power BI report. This report will include:

  1. An overview page summarising key insights.

  2. A drill-through page for deeper analysis.

  3. Styling and formatting aligned with your organisation’s branding and design guidelines.
